Finding Your Authentic Voice

  • Tosha Yoga 1283-1399 9th St Arcata, CA, 95521 United States (map)

Do you enjoy speaking? Do you feel like you when you speak? Does your voice feel playful and enjoyable? For so many of us, we carry tremendous tension in our voice and throats. This can hold us back from being able to express ourselves authentically.

This is an introductory voice workshop open to all who are interested in the power of their authentic, enjoyable voice.

In this workshop we will connect to breath and the body. It will be a playful and specific approach to examining what has shaped our voice, how it is linked to who we are, and to our purpose.

Sayda is coming to Arcata to teach the vocal component of Tosha’s 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training Program. She and Suzanne have worked together for a number of years and students RAVE about Sayda’s teaching. This is a rare and special opportunity!

The class will be kept small to ensure the best possible experience for all students.

About Sayda Trujillo:

Born in Montreal, and raised in Canada, Guatemala, and the USA, Sayda Trujillo is a theatre artist who performs and teaches around the world. She specializes in voice and movement, as well as in devising physical theatre.  Identity and storytelling inspire her personal work, as well as collective work with actors and non-actors.

Her interest is to know the power of the voice. As the daughter of Guatemalan immigrants in the United States, she cultivates her practice from a Nepantla perspective, that is, from in-between worlds. Exploring from those in-betweens allows one to embrace the notion of belonging between here and there.

Sayda has taught and performed in 32 countries including Guatemala, Ecuador, Chile, Singapore, Spain, Germany, Colombia, UK, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine with The Freedom Theatre, and India. Sayda has a BFA from CalArts, a graduate certificate from Dell Arte, and an MA in Voice Studies from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London.
