tosha (toe-sha) (तोष) :: ‘contentment'

some upcoming events …

The aim of Tosha is to be a nurturing sanctuary that catalyzes connection. A studio where teachers, students, and the tradition of yoga is fed and therefore can evolve and flourish through our contact with one another.

Stemming from ‘Samtosha’, Tosha means “contentment”. (The prefix “sam” means “completely”).  The tri-part flower logo of Tosha aims to bow to all of the holy trinities- the three parts of the sound of ‘OM’; the student, the teacher, the teaching; the father, the mother, the child; the Trimurti- Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva; and the fundamental philosophy of kriya yoga: this philosophic triad upon which practice rests: tapas, svadhyaya, and Ishvara pranidhana. The aim is to practice being content in our journey of blossoming in all of these three areas.

The studio space is intentionally simple and therefore affordable. To this aim we have no front desk, minimal staff, and carry only a few products for sale. The aim is to be an apolitical refuge- a space apart from any divisions that might exist between us on the human level. The space mirrors the expansive sense of being outside- with windows to all four directions- open channels to wisdom from the innate and wild self.

Yoga by definition is confrontational, radical, and endlessly challenging. It occurs on a battlefield both within the texts, and within the evolution of each individual.  Every person is called to practice because of suffering. And the battle is between choosing to remain ignorant and therefore continue suffering, or to wake up by confronting what’s in the way of the light.

We have to feed what works- what is dharmic, and let the rest fall away. This is how evolution happens- this is how we dissolve suffering.  We are all here to become warriors of the heart.
