with Dominic Corigliano
You may join this class as a drop-in student. But please note- this is not a led class- if you know the Primary Ashtanga series that is helpful- but not necessary.
This is a rare opportunity to begin or deepen your practice with 4 weeks of study with senior teacher Dominic Corigliano. In this form of yoga- Mysore style Ashtanga- students practice a set sequence at their own pace with the guidance and encouragement of a teacher. The room is mostly silent allowing more room to focus on the breath and one's own experience of sensation.
Beginning and experienced students will all be practicing together at their own level. Dominic will instruct with adjustments and personalized verbal cues. Beginners will be introduced to a short sequence which they are asked to memorize and gradually build what they are capable of remembering as well as accomplishing. There will be periodic one-on-one instruction from Dominic- guiding you as you progress into more postures and retain/ memorize the practice. Everyone progresses at learning the sequence at a different pace making this an efficient way for continuing students to advance. Students may ask questions and receive more detailed answers after class. This way of practicing greatly strengthens students' sense that the practice is their own.
Mysore style is is the original method of learning and practicing Ashtanga Yoga. It is named after the South Indian City where the late K Pattabhi Jois taught from the late 1930s until his death in 2009.
Dominic is one of only a handful of teachers ever Certified to Teach Ashtanga by K. Pattabhi Jois, the creator of this method who passed in 2009. This is an opportunity to learn about or deepen your existing relationship with Ashtanga Yoga taught by an internationally recognized senior teacher of the method.
